Positively bursting with energy, massive in stature, Moonbootica are the antithesis of „lite“ culture and New Modesty. Where they’re coming from, bigging themselves up like there’s no tomorrow, is pure Hip-Hop. tobitob was still commander in chief of the famous Fünf Sterne Deluxe productions when he decided to team up with his pal KoweSix as a duo, soon to become Moonbootica, challenging musical minds and matters by spinning their favourite records. A dirty job for some was a pleasure to them, and seeing as no-one else was interested, the brothers just had to do it for themselves.
It started out as a bit of party DJ fun, but of course it led to greater things.
Whilst their German DJ contemporaries clung to the whispering overtures of minimalism, glorifying gentle fizzles and clicks as symphonies, Moonbootica went hell for leather as far in the opposite direction as it is possible to go.

Parking their bikes in the driveway, they took a mallet to the windshield of sophistication pervading the muso carpark. Big mouths strike again. If we are talking ballsize, Moonbootica have the big ones hanging in the discotheque. If we are talking good looks, George Clooney comes second (no, third). Like HipHop with no Rap, their music is a stylish amalgam of everything that makes us strong, beautiful and successful. Or at least lets us believe it, just for a moment. If you dare challenge their superelevation, you might just find your foot stuck in the honeypot (it says here). When last was the opportunity of the moment so expertly grasped, the carpe diem so well paid out in per diems, when in the last half decade were ears so plentifully rewarded with charm and wit?

From the Eastern Bloc to the Med, from Australia to here, their rock solid sets represent a compression of climaxes, back to back they hunt down and triumphantly pin up moments of unbelievable excitement, just one beat short of heaven. No time for over-refined palates when the flames are this high: if you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen!

As musicians and producers, KoweSix and tobitob are paid-in-full members of the Work Harder school of industry, transforming the banal into blatant, overacting all along the way. Moonbootica remixes have spread happiness across the land in the name of such diverse artists as Mousse T, Richard Dorfmeister and Planet Funk . Not unlike Aphex Twin or even Masters At Work, Moonbootica have made the Remix a business model all of its own. By accident rather than design.

Following a flurry of 12 inches and the “DJ Sounds Good” mix album, the pair have moved on to their neatly, eponimously entitled debut album “Moonbootica” which ventures deeper into the multifarious regions of their artistic souls. Whilst DJ compatriate Hans Nieswandt praised their „cocky conviction“ and up-for-it battle stance as expressed on the mix album, KoweSix and tobitob reappear here in altogether more playful mode.

If you thought they were tough guys slashing their path through the jungle, you might be surprised at the delicate sounds emanating from the undergrowth. There’s more to Moonbootica than the motto “Bring your love to the club and rock that shit!”. There’s more than enough drama at work here, but let’s face it, in their steel frames beats a heart of gold. Two hearts of gold, of course - Moonbootica are, indeed, larger than life.
