Having steadily built up a reputation as a clinical minimalist de rigueur, Germany’s sleeparchive has been garnering profound respect from the techno community with every new work he’s released since 2004. The project is the work of Roger Semsroth, who emerged in the early years of this decade as the dark electro act Skanfrom. Ever since, Semsroth has been moving increasingly in the direction of industrial-inflected minimal techno, drawing comparisons to the likes of Pan Sonic and the Raster-Noton family. Yet unlike those acts, sleeparchive is drawn to the steady pulsations of an imaginary dancefloor that may be more suited for a hospital lounge than any of Berlin’s club. This unique angle has earned him vaunted spots on Richie Hawtin’s seminal DE9 | Transitions mix album.
