What’s happened: In March 2004, there’s really bad news for fans of sophisticated and driving techno music. Due to the bankruptcy of EFA, Kurbel Records is amongst all the small independent german record labels that lose their distributor. Many of those labels have found new distribution partners … Kurbel chose to take a time out. “Yes, this label is history.”, that’s the only statement its label web site www.kurbel.com gave regarding the events.
The restart will be supported by the relaunch of the label’s web site to be found at www.kurbel.com which will go online exactly at the turn of the year. It will give new insights to the Kurbel Records label and its artists both for fans and press.

Munich-born Richard Bartz has been a leading factor in the electronic dance music scene for over a decade. In the mid-90s, alongside with DJ Hell, he founded the "Munich Techno" genre whose formative influence can still be heard in releases all over the world.
In 1995, Bartz founded his own label "Kurbel" for his own releases. Using project names at first, and his own name as well as his pseudonym "Acid Scout" later, he released classics like the "Style Wars", "Ghettoblaster", "Holographic", and "Navigator" EPs. During the years, many artists release on Kurbel, amongst them headliners like DJ Hell, Heiko Laux, Savas Pascalidis, Johannes Heil, and Daniel Lodig.
Due to the bankruptcy of EFA in April 2004, Kurbel loses its distributor and is suspended temporarily. In 2005, it’s starting over with its new distributor Neuton.
