Sébastien Léger Interview

UMP3: You released the great cover of the electronic dance music classic Jaguar, when have you decided to remix this track and … tell me please about this project.

Sébastien : I basically did it first for my own set, as a tool, sort of alternative mix for fun. It was also a challenge that i set myself a few years ago, but i never really had time to do it properly until now.
I gave it to Pete Tong, explaining to him that every single instruments was replayed by myself etc.. He played it on his show, the response was huge. I then decided to present it to the original artist and label: Dj Rolando & UR. They loved it, so we released it for the fun. If for any reason they disliked my version, I would have never released the record.

UMP3: You will play there at Creamfields Central Europe this summer, have you ever playe any Creamfields in the UK or other countries?

Sébastien : No never, that will be my first one (as far as I remember).

UMP3: Which of the summer festivals you will play this season?

Sébastien : I’m not sure yet, i think i’ll be more busy touring in South and North America this summer. The summer planning is on its way right now…

UMP3: This won´t be your first visit here in Czech, what do you think about the crowd here?

Sébastien : Think that will be my second or third time there, and i dont have bad memories at all about it, so thats all good :)

UMP3: You have remixed music from Dave Gahan, Beyoncé or Justin Timberlake, to name a few, which other interesting remixes have you produced?

Sébastien : Did a couple of remixes last year, from proper underground techno artists to really big pop stars… Few of them reach high ranks in the top 40 (like my remix for Ida Engberg - Disco Volante) etc… But i basically stopped remixes for a while, focussing more on my own music now.

UMP3: I think, you are one of these artist who show the way to the others, do you reflect the changes there at the scene?

Sébastien : I don’t pretend to show anything to anybody, but thanx i take it as a compliment ! I just like the idea of doing forward thinking dance music that is still accessible and quality.

UMP3: Which genres of the current electronic dance music do you like?

Sébastien : Basically what i play in my set is mainly funky music. From deep house to techno and everything in between. Not fancy of straight grooves or to “rock” like music. I enjoy very much the funky minimal techno-tek-house.

UMP3: Do you use any of the new technologies – soft or hard there at stage or do you prefet the records?

Sébastien : I like playing only with CDs. Dont feel very comfortable with a laptop that does the job by itself…

UMP3: Have you ever released any mix compilation?

Sébastien : No.

UMP3: Do you plan to release any?

Sébastien : Maybe :)

UMP3: You produce for Black Jack, Intec Records, Riviera, Rising Music, Kingdon Kome Cuts,Hed Kandi and ofcourse Mistakes - which other labels do you cooperate with?

Sébastien : I dont produce for Hed Kandi or Kingdon Kome Cuts, they are just licences from other labels.. Black Jack and Riviera used to be my first labels i worked for but its 8/9 years back ! I did release on Ovum, Intec even Defected few years ago, the last two years, I did a release on Pickadoll (John Dahlback’s label) and few remixes for Pryda/Mouseville etc…but now i’m focussing only on my own inprint Mistakes.

UMP3: Which new releases can we looking forward to till your visit in Czech on July 2008?

Sébastien : Well, the next Mistakes releases of course, i’m busy making music at the moment, plenty of ideas and groove, just looking for now the freshest tracks, it must stand out !

UMP3: Any message to the Creamfields Central Europe people, please?

Sébastien : If you like partying on groovy floating funky and energetic tek-house, then you are more than welcome on my floor :)

UMP3: Thank you for the answers
