Founded in 2002 by Simon Lister, Simon Stuart and Peter Wilson, People Get Real started life as a monthly Sunday party with the three promoting and playing alongside a host of local and national DJ talent. Specialists Bill Brewster and Charles Webster topped the list as did The Electric Chair’s Unabombers in a legendary one-off party in Leeds.
The noises being made were soon heard by the promoters of other local nights who were interested in incorporating the People Get Real vibe into their own events. From then on the three became known as their current collective name and started playing regularly for a select few parties – whipping up all night frenzies on their own and occasionally welcoming the odd legend too to spice things up. House innovator Robert Owens being the most lauded and applauded.
It was within these settings that PGR started to develop their DJing style. Their parties embraced an anything goes music policy, mixing all musical genres together in a way that was fresh and ignited dance-floors.
In 2004, Mixmag featured one of their mixes in their bedroom heroes feature the result of which landed them sets for The Boutique at Turnmills and weekly residencies in Newcastle for Wax:On and Hold It Down. With the blue touch paper well and truly lit, PGR have since gone from strength to strength.
Now officially Mixmag Future Heroes our intrepid trio have set forth to conquer the United Kingdom with Wax:On, laying waste to every city they visit, mixing sounds and the hottest guest DJ’s to create their own special brand of speaker-shaking, dance-floor terrorism.
